What do I do?
After receiving your story, chapter, or poem, all you need to do is record yourself reading it out loud. Only audio – no video, please!
When you start recording, start off by saying hello, however you like. You can then introduce yourself, or just jump right into the story.
At the end, you can just finish. You can say goodbye if you like, but you don’t have to.
Once you start recording, please wait about 10 seconds before speaking. This helps us a lot when we remove background noise.
Try to speak at the same speed throughout the recording. If you make a mistake whilst recording, do not worry. You don’t have to start again. Just stop, wait a few seconds, and go back to the start of the sentence.
If you feel confident editing your recording to remove any mistakes, please do so. If you don’t know how to do that, you can email your recording, even if it has mistakes, and we can do it for you. When it comes to strange words or names, just do your best. If you come across something confusing, just let us know.
Don’t worry too much about background noise. A quiet room is best, but just make sure your voice is nice and clear. When it comes to character voices, have fun! You can give characters funny voices, or just speak normally.
Do try to keep the microphone the same distance away from you at all times. Long hair brushing against the microphone, jewelry and clothes (such as leather jackets) can all make noise that show up in recordings.
How do I record/ email my voice on my phone?
A YouTube video explaining how to record with Apple devices can be found at the bottom of this page.
For other phones and gadgets, the instructions will be very similar. If you can’t figure it out, or have any trouble, ask someone nearby, or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org or text (812) 250-8724 and we can help.
Please email your recording to email@example.com. We prefer MP3s, but can work with most filetypes!
Do I have to read all of my story?
Please read as much as you can. The whole thing is ideal, however, you may stop wherever you like. We appreciate you reading for us!
