Student Alpha
Program: High School Equivalency
Tutoring: In-person at The Literacy Center only, twice a week
Main focus: Basic Math and English Language
This student is very punctual and attends every session. They require a tutor who can confidently tutor them in essential Math and English skills, including multiplication, division, spelling, handwriting, sentence structure, and word classes. The ideal tutor will be able to engage this student and maintain a strong focus on the task at hand.
Because this student is tutored at the Center, staff are available to shadow initial tutoring sessions. Interested volunteers are also able to observe a tutoring session.
Student Bravo
Program: Basic Adult Literacy
Tutoring: In-person at The Literacy Center only, once a week
Main focus: Fundamental Reading and Writing skills
This student is very punctual and attends every session. They require a tutor who is willing to help them work through essential phonics skills (sounds of letters, blending sounds). While this may seem complicated, it is relatively straightforward. This student has been working through the Challenger series of books, which is easy to use with students.
Because this student is tutored at the Center, staff are available to shadow initial tutoring sessions. Interested volunteers are also able to observe a tutoring session.
